What To Do After Your Rehab Has Finished….
Sarah Whiteley | September 30, 2022
We have all been there before. You’ve finished your course of physiotherapy. But you don’t quite know where to go from there. What are your options?
Most of the time we are guilty of returning back to sport and living our day-to-day lives without thinking twice. But this can have massive implications if you are not continuing to move as efficiently as your therapist has taught you.
Who would want to waste their time, money, and hard work on a course of physiotherapy to only be in pain 6 months down the line?
Here at Prosport our mission is to get you living a healthy, happy, pain free life! It isn’t all about getting rid of the pain now, it is about tomorrow, next week, next month and the years to come.
So if you’re stuck in the dark on what to do next after your rehab, read on and let’s clear it all up.
Why Massage Might Be A Good Option For You!
After treatment your therapist may recommend that you continue with massage appointments to prevent the pain from coming back.
This can often be the case if you have been struggling with pain or had other long standing problems for some time.
If this is the case, your therapist will continue to assess your movements. They will focus on hands-on treatment in the form of sports massage to prevent areas that have been doing too much.
Ensure that the pain won’t return again….
At ProSport we aim to get your body moving as efficiently as possible. If this is happening then there won’t be areas having to work harder than others which reduces the risk of injury.
When a muscle or joint has to work harder than normal it often results in pain.
Imagine running a marathon every day, you are bound to experience some pain. This is the same for someone getting knee pain from running or back pain when lifting.
Now these over compensations happen with EVERY movement that you do day to day. So it is important to know what your body does day to day to give you the correct rehab to get back to doing those things.
This will be identified in the first session with your therapist.
The rehabilitation that follows will be specific to these activities, we actually want to adapt the way you are moving doing the things you would do normally.
It should be easy to prevent the pain from coming back again, however if you have been struggling with pain for some time it can be difficult to maintain new movements strategies.
Hence why we recommend that if you are one of these people with long term pain you get yourself booked on to one of our classes.
The Prosport Approach
At ProSport we take a unique approach to physiotherapy. We’re not a simple ‘pain-free’ clinic. It is not a quick fix.
We want to get the whole body working as efficiently as possible. Dive deeper into the root cause of your problem, treat the symptoms (your pain) but more importantly, fix the problem once and for all.
The majority of chronic pain patients have a history of other previous injuries, medical conditions or surgeries ongoing for several years.
These previous injuries create NEW movement habits to prevent the body from putting too much load through areas that may have or may still be giving you pain.
Previous injuries play a massive role in the diagnosis of your pain.
Have you ever had a pain which has then caused another area to be sore?
For example, maybe you’ve had knee pain which is now causing you back pain…
Or shoulder pain which is now giving you neck pain….
This is exactly why we want to identify the root cause of your pain. Once we find and treat that root cause we can ensure that the body moves as efficiently as possible and stop that pain coming back.
Our main aim at ProSport is to get you back to doing the things you want and need to be able to do.
After all, there is no point giving you exercises to run a marathon if you only want to be able to carry shopping.
Our exercises are specifically designed to get you moving efficiently whilst doing the things that you need and want to be able to do.
