Here’s why Physio can’t help you

What happens in our Initial Assessments?
If you’re in a lot of pain and thinking about booking a physio appointment, you’re probably wondering what would happen in your first session when seeing a therapist.
Well…let me explain….
Your first session would be an Initial Assessment. Both you and the therapist will have a chat about your injury, you will then have your assessment, this is where the therapist will look out for which movements you are struggling with and are causing you pain, and also assess which muscles are working efficiently and which muscles aren’t.
The therapist will then explain why you are experiencing the pain you have and make a plan to get from where you are now and where you want to be.
You’ll be advised how long your recovery is going to take.
Exercises will then be shown and given to you, so you can get started straight away at home.
This will help you get prepared for your next treatment session and get you well on your way to getting back to doing the things you love.
Reasons why we wouldn’t beneficial for you
If all you are wanting is some short term pain relief, then physio isn’t for you.
If it is short term pain relief you are looking for then why not try a sports massage.
This will help you manage the pain, but won’t stop the pain from coming back like physio would. It’ll help alleviate any tightness and tension in your muscles. Massage is good for getting your body ready and also helping your body recover from any sports eventing that you may have had.
Hands on treatment is limited in your first session as you can see. This is because it’s really important that the therapist understands the story behind your pain, finds out why you are in pain from the assessment and provides a treatment plan. Without taking time to do this thoroughly the therapist wouldn’t be able to give any hands-on treatment because they wouldn’t know which areas to treat and why.
Physio won’t be able to help you if you aren’t willing to help yourself. You’ll be given exercises that you’d have to do little and often throughout your day. These are specifically given to you to make sure you are making progress. If this is something you wouldn’t be willing to make the time for then our physio sessions wouldn’t benefit you.
Treatment isn’t just in the physio room. Exercises are a form of treatment within our physio, we need people that are motivated to get better and who are wanting to do their exercises daily to make sure they are getting better.
