Here Are The Common Questions We Get Asked About Ankle Pain On A Daily Basis
Why Is My Ankle Pain Sharp Sometimes And Then At Other Times Like A Toothache Type Pain?
We treat many people with this complaint on a daily basis. Very often this is a simple in-built protective mechanism from the body to prevent you from doing ‘actual’ damage or ‘further’ damage. We have a slow and a fast pain pathway so depending on the activity it may send a fast type of pain where as when your resting, the brain may choose to send a ‘slow pathway’ pain in the form of an ache. Although the sharper pain can become worrying, usually we find some good oul reassurance via our assessment, hands on treatment and some bespoke exercises for you can eliminate these sharp and achey pains very quickly and allow you not to give your knee a second thought while doing the things you enjoy in your life.
Why Is My Ankle Pain Affecting My Ability To Work Or Live A Normal Life?
Many patients that we have helped report that this is a major concern for them when they come to see us. The ankle pain is simply a message from the brain ‘to take action and change something’. Unfortunately most people don’t know where to look to take action. We have treated thousands of knee’s both in professional sport and private practice and so have a very good idea based on our assessments of where to start. By finding the true origin of the problem (which very often is not even the ankle anyways) we can help give you back your confidence in your ankle. This then allows you to get back living a productive life (even if you had your ankle pain for many years) and be effective in work and take part in the things you enjoy in life.
Why Is My Ankle Pain Starting To Affect Other Parts Of My Body?
Ironically it is when our patient’s ankle pain starts to affect other parts of their body such as the ‘other’ ankle starts to hurt or their back gets ‘achey’ is when they usually get in touch with us. You see, there is an in-built mechanism in us designed to take pressure away from areas when our brain thinks there is a problem and this is usually when other areas can then become affected. It is an ‘ok’ strategy short term but long term these areas of the body can then get grumpy for doing extra work unbeknown to you. Some simple hands on treatment and finding your bespoke stressors to your body can quickly and easily relieve you of your ankle pain and keep your other ankle, back or knee etc nice and happy for years to come.
Am I At Risk Of Developing 'Osteoarthritis'?
Many of your patients that we successfully help with ankle pain even come in initially very concerned about their future health. Some have even been diagnosed with ‘osteoarthritis’. The first thing we will do after your assessment is re-assure you based on our findings. We then go about helping you change your symptoms very quickly and effectively using our expert hands on treatment and bespoke rehabilitation plans. From here we then show you how to gain ‘thoughtless, fearless movement’ using a very specific plan for your exact needs. The result is usually returning to your life without letting ankle pain determine who you are.

"Hi Dave. Just want you to know that I had no pain last night at all. 🙂 That's the first time in twelve years !! Thank you is not enough."
Glynnis Newton, Birstall
Anna Ellis, Ex-Leg Pain
Last year I injured my leg, and then had a fall; Pro Sport physiotherapist Shane Mooney treated me. With his expertise and encouragement, the recovery process became a learning curve which has made a major difference to my life. I now exercise 5x a week, running, weights and climbing, and at 60 am fitter than I have been for decades, which is amazing. I am very grateful to Shane!
Andrew Mackrill, Ex- Ankle And Foot Pain
Couldn't fault it from start to finish. Shane was brilliant. After sustaining a calf and foot injury I went in feeling ready for the scrapyard and left literally being able to do a marathon. It wouldn't have been possible without Shane. Many thanks from Andrew Mackrill
Shona Hanson, Soccer Player Daughter, Ex-Calf Problem
I am very impressed with Pro Sport Physio. My daughter has recently finished rehab with them as she has suffered from a long term calf problem which has affected her when playing football. Both Shane & Dave diagnosed and worked out a treatment plan quickly. They explained what had caused the problem and what needed to happen to improve it. They emailed through the exercises they advised to follow at home in between sessions. I have visited many physios over the years and I have to say Pro Sport are the best I've come across. They are very hands on and provide a good balance between having sessions with them as well as following up with rehab exercises at home. I would highly recommend them.
Francis Warne, Footballer Player, Ex-Ankle Injury
Many thanks to the Pro Sport team for getting me back on my feet and keeping me there after a series of injuries sustained playing football. Being that I'm now the wrong side of 30 their advice and down to earth approach has helped me to stay fit and ready to play a variety of sports on a regular basis.
