How many sessions will I need?
Sarah Whiteley | October 4, 2022
The all important question that everyone wants to know when it comes to your first session.
Firstly there is no one size fits all.
Every single patient that comes through the door is different.
You might have the same back pain as the next person but the things you do in your day to day life are different and this is one key factor to determine a patient’s predicted number of sessions.
Here at Prosport we guarantee to give you a predicted number of sessions, this way you have an understanding as to how long it is going to take to get back to doing the things you love and need to be able to do.
Why we suggest a number of sessions to people
We understand that a lot of people that come to us at Prosport have already been around the houses. You may have tried several alternative methods to get rid of your pain but the pain continues to persist, and put a stop to the things you need to be able to do on a day to day basis.
Fixing pain is not going to happen overnight, especially if your pain has been bothering you for some time now.
We suggest a number of sessions to give you an idea as to how long it is going to take (not to get you pain free), but to get you doing the things you WANT to be able to do WITHOUT the pain returning.
Why not completing the full number of sessions will have serious implication on a patients pain
As mentioned previously our number of sessions suggested is based on getting rid of your pain and stopping it from returning but also accounting for the things you want to be able to do.
So if you don’t stick to the full number of sessions suggested you are at risk of the pain returning.
The exercises we provide are designed to encourage your body to move more efficiently day to day. We increase the intensity of the exercises we give to work up to your desired end goal. Therefore if you do not complete a full number of sessions your body will not be ready to meet the demands of the activity that you are doing. This may encourage a flare up or the pain to worsen.
What things determine how many sessions are suggested
Each therapist will identify the key factors for each individual patient.
The key factors will include the following:
- How long the patient has had the pain
- What other things are contributing to the pain experience
- What the patient wants to be able to do (sleep comfortably or run a marathon)
- What movements aggravate the pain experience
