The One Stretch All Runners Should Be Doing Before They Run
Dave O’Sullivan | January 10, 2020
As a runner myself, I think it’s fair to say that most of us are terrible at warming up! The ones that do warm up properly usually do so because they’ve learned the hard way through injuries that it’s important to do so. But a lot of runners simply lace up their trainers and run out the door with no real warm up before hand.
Warm-ups don’t need to be long, and I usually give all the runners that come to see me in the clinic a bespoke 2-3 minute warm up that is specific to their bodies. But if there’s one stretch I’d like to see all runners doing on a regular basis it’s this quad stretch.
This quad stretch is superior to the usual ‘pull heel to bum’ stretch that a lot of other runners do because in this position, the opposite leg is in a flexed position – just like it will be when you run. This puts the pelvis in a much better position and helps to drive a much better stretch on the stretching leg.
Watch the video below to see the stretch, and give it a try and let us know how you get on!
